Reading for Wellbeing

Gearing up for Reading for Wellbeing

Tuesday 24th June 2025. A huge thank you to Jane Hartley, Development Coordinator for Reading for Wellbeing for meeting with some of The Woodyard Project team last week. Jane has invaluable experience of running the Reading for Wellbeing project in the North East – and was really generous with both her time and her insights into the most effective way to set up our own project in and around Barnstaple!

Reading for Wellbeing is strongly supported by well-known author Ann Cleeves, the inspiration behind The Woodyard. However, although reading and listening are at its core, it is not a book club – rather a way of engaging with those of us who may not have easy access to a library or may not even view themselves as ‘readers’.

The focus is on encouraging reading as a mindful activity which not only nourishes you as an individual but creates social connections along the way. Read more about the benefits of this approach here: https://readingforwellbeing.org.uk/

The good news is that we will be starting our own Reading for Wellbeing project on Monday 28th July 2025 in Barnstaple – details to follow!
