Reading for Wellbeing Space

Free drop-in event

‘Space’ at Barnstaple Library Reading for Wellbeing session, 10am to 12pm, Monday 2nd March 2026.

Look up! Our theme for Monday’s Reading for Wellbeing session will be ‘Space’.

And Kayleigh Pullin-Rogers, who leads the scheme in North Devon, has thoroughly enjoyed scanning the skies to come up with a great variety of books and other media all connected with this theme.

Kayleigh explains “I make sure that each theme is quite broad, and gather together a variety of books along that theme as well as newspapers, magazines, comics and different genres. Reading for Wellbeing is about bringing everybody together and having a mutual topic to talk about in a safe space, with everyone feeling able to voice an opinion about what they read and how they read it.”

It’s all about your response to the written (or spoken) word and how this makes you feel.

So whether you are a sci-fi enthusiast, a star gazer or have simply come across a piece of writing which really brings alive the beauty of the cosmos, we’d love to see you there. It’s a drop-in, so come for as long or as little as you wish.

What is Reading for Wellbeing? 📕
Reading for Wellbeing is all about discovering the therapeutic benefits that can be gained from thinking differently about how you access stories to improve your overall wellbeing. Join us to explore how you read and open yourself up to the possibilities this change in mindset can unlock.

The programme was set up by well-known author Ann Cleeves (creator of ‘Vera’ and ‘Shetland’) who has strong links to North Devon. Ann is the inspiration behind ‘The Woodyard’ initiative, a community project hosted by and through NDVS.
