Take the plunge...
‘Under the sea’ at Barnstaple Library 👋 Reading for Wellbeing session, 10am to 12pm, Monday 2nd February 2026.
Our theme on Monday will be ‘Under the Sea’! We’ll be looking at how life under the waves – and stories connected with the sea – is portrayed in books, podcasts, poems and plays (or even photos!).
We could end up talking about weird and wonderful marine and plant life, or get distracted by shipwrecks and multi-headed sea monsters! And, of course, there’s the sea herself with all her many moods… 🐋🐬
It’s all about your response to the written (or spoken) word and how this makes you feel.
Why not take the plunge and come along? Feel free to bring any book or poem with you or simply sit and listen! It would be lovely to see you there.
What is Reading for Wellbeing? 📕
Reading for Wellbeing is all about discovering the therapeutic benefits that can be gained from thinking differently about how you access stories to improve your overall wellbeing. Join us to explore how you read and open yourself up to the possibilities this change in mindset can unlock.
The programme was set up by well-known author Ann Cleeves (creator of ‘Vera’ and ‘Shetland’) who has strong links to North Devon. Ann is the inspiration behind ‘The Woodyard’ initiative, a community project hosted by and through NDVS.
